Assistant Psychologist

Job summary

We are looking for an Assistant Psychologist to work with our multi-disciplinary team to deliver care/interventions to clients who have a learning disability under the supervision of the team psychologist.

This role covers the west locality of the county.Please note this vacancy may close early.

This job is currently only open to people who already work for the NHS in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly. We are committed to supporting our dedicated staff, so only current employees of the following organisations can apply:

Main duties of the job

The assistant will:

  • Carry out assessment and direct interventions under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist
  • Support multi-disciplinary multi-agency teams and work with staff, families and carers.
  • Contribute to teaching, training and research in the department.
  • Be expected to carry a clinical caseload, under supervision.

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • A 2nd class honours degree, or higher, in psychology, recognised by the BPS
  • An ability to work independently and use supervision effectively and appropriately.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience of assessment or psychological testing.
  • Experience of working as an (Hon./Intern) Assistant Psychologist or Support Worker with People with Learning Disabilities in health or social care settings.
  • A Passion for working with people with learning disabilities
  • Experience of psychological assessments
  • Experience in carrying out research projects

Desirable

  • Experience of working as a valued member of a team

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • High level of communication skills, written and verbal, including the ability to relate to Adults with Learning Disabilities and their support networks
  • An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge within a health context.
  • An understanding of biopsychosocial needs of people with a learning disability

Desirable

  • Ability to engage in a range of professional and non-professional groups in co-operative working.
