Clinical/Counselling Psychologist - Developmental (B7 to B8a)

Job summary

This post offers an exciting developmental opportunity for a recently qualified clinical or counselling psychologist to develop their skills and knowledge in a dynamic area of specialist clinical practice. You will enter the team at Band 7 and will be supported to access specialist training which will equip you to begin to practice as an 8a psychologist within 2 years.

The purpose of this job is to improve the psychological health and wellbeing of women using the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service and the Perinatal Loss and Trauma Team. You will be a member of a broad MDT that delivers a countywide service in Cornwall.

The team work collaboratively to support recovery and improving bonds with baby in the crucial first 1001 days. We have also expanded to provide NICE recommended psychological therapies to mums who have sadly experienced perinatal loss.

We deliver a holistic, high quality service that is safe, person-centred, and focused on family and recovery. Regular 121, group support and supervision are provided, along with CPD and regular training opportunities to enable you to grow in your role.

We are looking for a dynamic and solution-focused team player who is passionate about high quality care for women and their babies across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. You will be outcomes driven and able to work collaboratively with our organisational partnersto deliver a unified and safe service to expectant and new mothers, their babies and partners.

Main duties of the job

This is a community-based role that requires frequent travel to various locations throughout the county including areas that may not be accessible by public transportation. Successful candidates will need to demonstrate how they will manage these travel requirements.

1. To work with Professional Lead and Service Manager/s to ensure the systematic provision of a high-quality psychological service in the specialist field of practice.
2. To carry a specialist caseload of clients, and provide advice and consultancy to patients and professionals.
3. Develop skills in clinical leadership and supervision
4. Undertake specialist training eg: EMDR, specialist interventions for loss or prolonged grief, and post doctoral perinatal clinical psychology training
5. Build skills knowledge and confidence in safeguarding and child protection
6. To work autonomously within the professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within professional and Trust guidelines.
7. To contribute to service development and evaluation by undertaking and supporting others to undertake audit and research activities within the service.
8. Observe and abide by all relevant Professional Codes of Conduct and Practice including the British Psychological Society. The post holder will be fully registered with the Health Care Professions Council or appropriate designated Professional Body as a condition of employment.
