Job summary

Successful applicants will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre at Carew House, Bodmin on 20th September 2024. This will be a morning or afternoon to be confirmed.

Same day emergency care (SDEC) is one of the many ways the NHS is working to provide the right care, in the right place, at the right time for patients.

It aims to benefit both patients and the healthcare system by reducing waiting times and hospital admissions, where appropriate.

SDEC is a newly developed service based in Bodmin and West Cornwall (Penzance). Under this care model, patients presenting at hospital with relevant conditions can be rapidly assessed, diagnosed and treated without being admitted to a ward, and if clinically safe to do so, will go home the same day their care is provided.

Do you enjoy acute nursing and dynamic patient flow? The SDEC model is an innovative and dynamic patient pathway of which a key aspect is the assessment of the acute patient and treatment of symptoms aiming to return the patient on the same day to their home with the right support. You will be empowered to utilise a range of nursing skills (supported by training) to support patients through a clinical assessment, and ongoing treatment.

You should possess commitment to team working and innovative delivery of excellent standards of care. You will need to be able to demonstrate a real enthusiasm for using extended skills and a desire for on-going professional development.

Main duties of the job

SDEC allows specialists, where appropriate, to assess, diagnose and treat patients on the same day of arrival who would otherwise have been admitted to hospital.

Under this care model, patients presenting at hospital with relevant conditions can be rapidly assessed, diagnosed and treated without being admitted to a ward, and if clinically safe to do so, will go home the same day their care is provided.

Bodmin Same Day Emergency Care is the triage point for both Bodmin and West Cornwall SDEC for all direct referrals for assessment and Treatment. This role will undertake all clinical treatments directly referred for same day emergency care. In this role you will be working closely under the supervision of the Senior Staff Nurse to undertake treatments to allow the Senior Staff Nurse to manage all referrals and oversee the coordination of SDEC.

About us

We're an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people's physical and mental health. We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.

We are a people organisation and people matter to us. As part of the team, you'll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.

Over 4,000 people make up the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.

We work in people's homes, in community clinics and bases. Some staff work from one of our 13 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.

Just over 532,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area. This increases the numbers of people who use our services.
