Job summary

Cornwall CAMHS is seeking an ACP registered Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist for the West of the county, to be based in the core CAMHS teams inPenzance and Redruth.We are looking for a skilled, creative, and enthusiastic individual with a broad range of experience, including work with children, young people and families who present with a high level of complexity. This is a Band 8a role, however applications are welcomed from those interested in a developmental position (Band 7 rising to 8a after two years and upon completion of competencies).

As a service, we are actively seeking to develop our therapeutic offer for children, young people, and families, and we are keen to grow our Child Psychotherapy team. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about psychoanalytic thinking, clinically curious and motivated to support the development of Child Psychotherapy within Cornwall.

The Post holder will have access to regular supervision and be provided with excellent opportunities for professional development.

Main duties of the job

To provide comprehensive, high-quality, specialist Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy to children and young people with severe and complex mental health difficulties; and to actively support families, parents, and carers. This will include specialist assessments for psychotherapy, State of Mind assessment, STPP and longer-term psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

An active presence and thoughtful contribution to the life of their core CAMHS teams will be an important part of the Child Psychotherapist's role. They will attend multi-disciplinary team meetings, provide supervision to colleagues interested in psychoanalytic thinking, and offer opportunities for consultation and complex case discussion.

Cornwall has a strong tradition of providing Child Psychotherapy training places and this role will include opportunities to support trainees and assistants in their development.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy
  • Current ACP registration as a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist
  • Professional qualification - Essential, Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy training (CAPT) to Masters or Doctoral level or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the Association of Child Psychotherapists

Desirable

  • Managerial or supervisory responsibilities

Skills and Aptitude

Essential

  • Skills in training preparation and delivery to a wide range of staff groups
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
  • Knowledge of other professional and therapeutic approaches to children, young people and their families gained through a relevant Degree and Professional Qualification obtained prior to Child Psychotherapy training (e.g., Nursing, Social Work, Teaching, OT).
  • Knowledge of and skills in assessing risk and contributing to diagnoses. Specialist skills in infant observation.
