Perinatal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist

Job summary

We are looking for a band 8a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join our growing Specialist Perinatal team in Cornwall.

We are a countywide service, and are increasing our psychological therapy provision in line with the Long Term Plan ambition. The post involves offering assessment and intervention for both antenatal and postnatal women who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties.

The post therefore offers a good balance between early help/preventative/consultation work and highly specialist interventions for individuals with more acute and complex needs. Training and supervision in a range of interventions to deliver and support our NICE informed care pathways is supported and encouraged.

You will be joining a supportive multi-disciplinary team made up of Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, Psychological Therapists, Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Nursery Nurses, Health Visitors and Peer Support Workers. Staff wellbeing, trauma informed practice, and evidence-based care pathways are important principles that guide how the Perinatal Service works.

Main duties of the job

  • You will be part of an innovative and supportive Psychological Therapies team dedicated to providing high-quality clinical care, and will have responsibility for the safe and effective delivery of the psychology service.
  • You will have opportunities for audit, research and leading service development.
  • You will deliver and receive regular reflective practice, clinical supervision, training and professional development opportunities.
  • We are able to provide and support specialist perinatal training.

We would love to have an informal conversation with you about this post and our services in beautiful Cornwall, which is a fantastic place to live and work. As we are able to support staff to undertake specialist training in perinatal mental health, lack of previous experience in this specialist field need not be a barrier to applying for this post.

About us

We're an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people's physical and mental health. We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.

We are a people organisation and people matter to us. As part of the team, you'll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.

Over 4,000 people make up the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.

We work in people's homes, in community clinics and bases. Some staff work from one of our 13 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.

Approximately 568,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area. This increases the numbers of people who use our services.
