Job summary

Following successful internal promotion, this post would be an excellent development opportunity for a newly qualified Band 5 therapist looking for their first role or for someone seeking next steps within the profession. The role will expand their knowledge and skills working with children aged 2 - 18 in a community setting across a wide range of speech, language and communication needs.

The role is a full time permanentposition. Although advertised as full time, a preference for part time would be considered and can be discussed.

There are two posts available one will be based at St Austell Hospital and at Truro Health Park, covering children across the St Austell and Truro area, the other is located in East Cornwall. These are small hubs with other therapists with opportunities for liaison, supervision and team working. It also lends itself to working from home for some of the week.

The SLT Service has a range of continuing development opportunities ranging from individual to service-wide training. There is also access to a range of specialist SLT practitioners for advice and support. The trust offers a preceptorshipprogramme for newly qualified therapists. Support will be given to help achieve RCSLT newly qualified competencies.

Main duties of the job

? Be professionally and legally responsible for your own caseload as an autonomous practitioner, and for all aspects of your work, seeking guidance as appropriate.? Maintain own competency in line with HCPC and RCSLT codes of conduct and standards of practice.? Plans, manages and prioritises own patient caseload independently and time-efficiently with access to appropriate level of support and advice.? Works individually and as part of multidisciplinary teams to provide a service for children and young people with communication disorders and their carers.

? Attends all mandatory training as required by CPT.? Adhere to the trust and SLT service policies and procedures such as :-Attend mandatory training, Participate actively in the annual appraisal system,

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Speech & Language Therapy (or equivalent qualification)
  • License to practice from Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists
  • Current professional registration with HCPC

Desirable

  • Membership of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists, and evidence of own ongoing professional development

Experience

Essential

  • Undergraduate paediatric clinical experience in a range of settings
  • To be able to deal with a range of clinical issues and formulate appropriate strategies for caseload management
  • Have high levels of insight, skill and experience to work in partnership with the patient, to determine an intervention programme that balances all aspects of their needs

Desirable

  • Post graduate SLT experience working with children
  • To have an understanding of the use of visual strategies, and symbol systems e.g. Picture Exchange Communication System.
  • Have knowledge of differential diagnosis regarding SLT

  • Have a willingness to learn and develop
