Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Practitioner Psychologist to work across two settings within our Trust.

Harvest Ward is a dynamic, compassionate nurse led service. It aims to support those service users of the trust in their most serious crises in a low stimulus, positive, enabling and emotionally containing environment.

The unit is led by an aspirational team and supported by an operational management team committed to getting the best outcomes for service users. The ward culture is compassionate, open and flexible in the face of diverse challenges. We hope to attract a Psychologist who is keen to work with people experiencing psychotic and mood disorders in intensive and distressing ways, being an active part of a ward team enabling people to manage themselves and carry over their progress to more open, less structured settings.

The Next Steps Service is a consortium of different Mental Health providers from both statutory and non-statutory settings. The team aims to engage people in entrenched homelessness and work with them and the wider system to reduce the impact of homelessness on mental health, as well as reducing the impact of mental health difficulties on people's ability to obtain or maintain accommodation. The successful applicant will supervise a Psychological Assistant in delivering assessments and interventions for a wide range of clients in a range of settings.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention service to inpatient. Offer advice and consultation on psychological care and treatment
  • Contribute to the development of clinical pathways and utilise research skills to monitor, audit, and suggest further developments for the service
  • Take a leading role in reducing restrictive interventions and developing a trauma informed approach in each service are
  • Take a leading role in the development of a psychological formulation-led approach to understanding the service user, establishing a shared understanding within the MDT of a service user's presentation, clear goals for their care episode and care progression
  • Lead on the provision of regular reflective practice sessions with staff
  • Provide consultation and advice to colleagues, particularly around assessment, formulation, risk assessment and management of clients
  • Provide suitable training and on-going supervision to staff of other professions and services
  • Participate in inpatient service developments, including undertaking relevant training and supervision, as appropriate and in consultation with the Lead Psychologists
  • Undertake appropriate audit, research and provide research advice to other staff. To also maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to both the specific client group and mental health
  • Carry an autonomous specialist caseload of service users, and provide clinical supervision
