Job summary

We are excited to have the opportunity to recruit a new Assistant Psychologist to join our growing Psychology and Psychological Therapies (PPT) team working with people with dementia and older people with mental health difficulties.

Our team believe in investing in emerging psychology professions staff. We have strong links with the Clinical Psychology and CAP training courses at Plymouth University, contributing to the older adult, dementia and neuropsychology teaching programmes, and regularly having trainees on placement. We developed CFT's Trust wide Undergraduate Psychology Intern programme and regularly offer placements to students nationwide.

We feel we have a lot to offer candidates with the potential to make a positive contribution. This will include regular supervision from a qualified Clinical Psychologist and support with career development. We value staff wellbeing and will encourage you to have a healthy work-life balance enjoying all that Cornwall has to offer!

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be embedded in our in-patient multidisciplinary team for people with a dementia diagnosis, on Garner Ward, Bodmin Hospital. You will contribute to the Cornwall Supporting Behaviour Pathway and be involved with the assessment process with people whose behaviour staff are finding challenging. Duties will include gathering background information, completing measures, co-facilitating a support group for carers/family members and working with multidisciplinary team colleagues. There may also be some opportunities to support our community-based colleagues.

You will become a valued part of our friendly PPT team which includes Clinical Psychologists, a Psychological Therapist, trainee Clinical Psychologists, a trainee Clinical Associate in Psychology (CAP), other Assistant Psychologists, and a Psychology Undergraduate Intern. You will also be encouraged to make links with members of the psychology professions working in services across the Trust e.g. through attending psychology professionals' meetings.

We are looking for a highly motivated person with excellent interpersonal and workload management skills and a genuine passion for working with our client group. If you would like to contribute to the development of a supportive psychology team committed to providing high quality, fair, and consistent services, we would love to hear from you!

About us

We're an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people's physical and mental health. We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.

We are a people organisation and people matter to us. As part of the team, you'll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.

Over 4,000 people make up the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.

We work in people's homes, in community clinics and bases. Some staff work from one of our 13 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.

Approximately 568,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area. This increases the numbers of people who use our services.
