Job summary

This is a fantastic opportunity for an aspiring Nurse who is already in a Band 6 role or above. Our community are passionate about the care they receive locally and therefore we are looking for an individual who will continue to develop responsive, safe, caring and committed community and hospital services whilst leading an integrated team from the front.

St Mary's Hospital is a site set on an island, which provides community hospital services for the local population. The community hospital service has a total of 10 inpatient beds. It also has a Minor Injuries Department, an X-Ray facility, Outpatient treatment facilities, a Dental Department, a Therapy Department and is supported by a busy Primary Care Service and Nursing Home on the island.

Working in partnership and sharing responsibility for the day-to-day management of the patients, visitors, site and staff, you will be responsible for ensuring good standards of infection prevention and control, privacy and dignity, cleanliness and health and safety to meet the standards required by the Care Quality Commission and NICE Guidelines. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate developing leadership skills, people management skills, communication skills and a commitment to improving the quality of services for patients and carers.

Main duties of the job

An Island Living Allowance of 5% of the salary will be paid to any successful applicant resident on the island. Relocation expenses will also be considered. This post is needed to provide strong leadership to support a diverse integrated workforce as the plan, which is in place for the future of the Health Services on the island, will see roles integrating with community and Adult Social Care (ASC) services.

To provide managerial and clinical leadership to the nursing, therapy, community and support staff.

To manage the daily running of the Minor Injury Unit (MIU), Hospital Ward and Community ensuring effective staff rostering and skill mix.

To ensure the delivery of high quality evidence based patient care within the guidelines of Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CFT) policies and procedures.

To promote effective communication and partnership working with all members of the multi-disciplinary and inter-agency teams including medical staff, patients, ASC, carers and the wider community, Commissioners and Voluntary Sector.

To ensure effective management of MIU, Ward and Community resources as budget holder for the hospital.

To support and deputise for the Modern Matron.

To work flexibly with peers and managers in the Locality, prioritising resources as required.
