Clinical Fellow in Gastroenterology (IMT equivalent)

Job summary

A Gastroenterology Clinical Fellow position at IMT3+ level has arisen. The post is designed to deliver clinical care to in-patients (IP) under the responsibility of the Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Consultants at St George's Hospital.

This represents an opportunity for an enthusiastic doctor to join a dynamic clinical team in Gastroenterology. The appointee will join four gastroenterology registrars and 8 resident doctors in gastroenterology and acute medicine and work with 18 consultants, in a highly supportive environment with consultant presence on the unit between 09.00 to 13.00, which offers the ideal setting for a trainee to develop further the required skills of a gastroenterology registrar.

The majority of the time will be spent on normal working days (8.30am-5pm) on Allingham ward (the home Gastroenterology ward) and relevant outlying wards, including assessment and review of Gastroenterology IP referrals in other areas of the Trust, e.g. AMU.

There will be the opportunity to develop other areas of interest, and this may include taking part in specialty Gastroenterology/Hepatology/Nutrition clinics, endoscopy, and involvement in teaching of under- and post-graduate students or participation in service improvement projects.

Main duties of the job

  • Full registration with General Medical Council
  • At least 12 months experience working in Emergency or Acute General Medicine
  • To have achieved provider status in at least one of ALS, ATLS and APLS
  • Postgraduate diploma (e.g. MRCP(UK), MCEM, MRCS)

Desirable

  • Additional relevant clinical experience, preferably including working at middle grade level in Gastroenterology
  • Life support course instructor
