ABN Neurology Advanced Clinical Training Fellowship in TBI

Job summary
This is an ABN accredited one-year full time peri-post CCT clinical fellowship post. Candidates must be within 15 months of CCT at the point of interview. It is designed to allow the post holder to attain advanced specialist clinical skills across the spectrum of TBI. The post will include inpatient and outpatient experience in the assessment, investigation, management and follow up of TBI patients. Supervision and education will be provided by consultants with established national and international standing in TBI. Candidates will be encouraged to develop autonomous clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
An additional important focus of the post is for the postholder to develop a first in its kind TBI regional network in the SW London and Surrey Major Trauma Network. This innovative development will map on existing networks in both neurology and neurosurgery. Close liaison with the emergency department, NITU and neurosurgical colleagues at St George's will enable the development of a wide portfolio of training and education. This post is funded by the Dawes Legacy.
Main duties of the job
St George's Hospital is a Major Trauma Centre serving the SW London and Surrey Trauma Network. The TBI department at St George's is a thriving and forward-thinking group, working closely with the trauma team, neurosurgery team and NITU, to provide rapid input into the care of patients presenting acutely with TBI. There are dedicated in-patient beds on the Neurology ward (four acute TBI beds and six level one neurorehabilitation beds).
The team have been leading the way in the development of clinical TBI services in London. The TBI service is led by a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist (Dr Akshay Nair). The other members of the consultant team are Dr Hena Ahmad (Consultant Neurologist with a specialist interest in vestibular neurology), Dr Camilla Clark (Clinical Academic with a specialist interest in social and emotional change post TBI), Dr Colette Griffin (Consultant Neurologist with a specialist interest in complex TBI), Mrs Fay Greenway (Consultant Neurosurgeon with a specialist interest in TBI), Dr Ivy Ong (Consultant Neurologist with a specialist interest in post-traumatic headache syndromes) and Dr Etienne Laverse (Consultant Neurologist with a specialist interest in sports TBI). This dynamic group have also developed a growing TBI research portfolio
