Job summary

We have an excellent opportunity for a Clinical / Counselling Psychologist to join our well-established Department of Adult Psychological Professions to deliver input to the Diabetes Centre, St George's University Hospitals.

This Clinical / Counselling Psychology post will be an exciting opportunity for the post holder to join a colleague already working in the Multidisciplinary Diabetes Foot team, to shape specialist psychological input across the diabetes service. This will include establishing routine screening, referral pathways and offering specialist assessment and intervention as well as case consultation, teaching and training.

This post would suit a Clinical / Counselling Psychologist with experience of working in physical health settings / medical teams who is looking to build service development and leadership skills The post holder will be provided with regular supervision and support from a senior clinical psychologist. Peer supervision sessions are also arranged on a regular basis with other experienced clinical / counselling psychologists across Clinical Health Psychology. The Department of Adult Psychological Professions is committed to continuing professional development and career progression. The Department also has excellent links with St George's Hospital Medical School and the University of Surrey.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will participate in the Diabetes MDT meetings, joint clinic appointments and provide psychology outpatient appointments and follow up as needed. The post will involve providing cognitive assessments and psychological assessment and therapy, working as part of the multi-disciplinary team both within St George's hospital and with other hospitals within the network to manage the psycho-social factors related to Diabetes.

The team includes the Diabetes Consultants, Diabetes Specialist Nurses (DSNs), Diabetes Dieticians, and our Diabetes Foot Team. The emphasis is on multidisciplinary delivery of on-going care for patients with long-term conditions, and increasingly this care will be delivered in partnership with primary care colleagues.
