Endoscopy Clinical Fellow

Job summary

This fellowship provides advanced luminal endoscopy training within a high-volume national training centre, and is suitable for senior gastroenterology trainees seeking consolidation of basic endoscopic skills and to develop complex therapeutic skills. The fellow will gain supervised exposure to advanced techniques such as EMR, underwater EMR and ESD, advanced Barrett's surveillance techniques and IBD surveillance endoscopy, while contributing to service lists and participating in quality improvement activity including audit. The fellow will be involved in endoscopy-based research and in the development and delivery of endoscopy courses.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Endoscopy

Perform independent diagnostic OGD and colonoscopy, including level-1 therapeutic interventions, aligned to JAG KPIs.

Attendadvanced training lists focusing on EMR, ESD exposure, chromoendoscopy, dysplasia assessment, and advanced lesion recognition.

Participate in the out-of- hours GI bleed Rota across St George's, Croydon and Epsom/St Helier's Trusts which offers excellent experience and which is paid as a separate on-call supplement.

Participate in vetting of referrals for endoscopy

Multidisciplinary Engagement

Prepare and chair the weekly Complex Polyp MDT

Audit, Governance & JAG/GRS Work

Lead mandatory endoscopy quality audits (e.g.PCCRC, PEUGIC, GI Bleed).

Support the unit's ongoing compliance with JAG standards and its role as a national training centre.

Teaching & Training

Coordinate the monthly Endoscopy Journal Club

Participate in simulation, training days and faculty activities embedded in St George's national training centre programmes.

Coordinate Year 3 Medical Student teaching.

Research

Opportunities exist in luminal endoscopy research, cancer screening, and GI outcomes research, supported by St George's academic infrastructure.
