Junior Clinical Fellow Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ST1-2)

Job summary

These posts are ideal for candidates who are looking to gain experience in obstetrics and gynaecology prior to obtaining a training post. The clinical fellows will work at ST1/2 level. The main duties will be to provide ward cover on the antenatal, postnatal and gynaecology wards under supervision, as well as allocated on call sessions on the delivery suite. In addition there will be an opportunity to gain exposure antenatal and gynaecology clinics and in theatre.

The clinical fellow will be trained in the fetal physiology approach to Intrapartum monitoring and the use of STAN monitoring. The clinical fellow will be expected to attend and present at the weekly departmental CTG and perinatal meetings. In addition the fellow is encouraged to attend the gynaecology multidisciplinary meetings in oncology and acute gynaecology. The clinical fellow will be encouraged to undertake clinical audit and contribute to the development of local guidelines.

Main duties of the job

The clinical fellow will work as part of a 1 in 8 rota Monday to Friday from 08.00-16:00 A typical 8 week cycle will contain:

- Long day each week covering either Obs or gynae

- 1 weekend of long days (08.00-20.00 sat and sun)) covering obs and gyane

- 1 weekend of nights (20.00-08.30 fri/sat/sun) covering obs and gynae

- 'Standard' days covering wards, theatres, Acute Gynaecology Unit and clinics
