Job summary
We are seeking to appoint a skilled and experienced Speech and Language Therapist (Band 6) to work within a well established and respected, adult multi-disciplinary community neuro team.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the assessment and treatment of adults with a variety of acquired neurological conditions living in the community. There are opportunities to see patients at the Therapy Centre and in other community settings. There is a strong emphasis on multi-disciplinary working including service development and team learning. The MD team includes occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, dietitian, clinical neuropsychologist, clinical nurse specialist, neuronavigator, administrative, psychology and therapy assistant practitioners.
As an experienced therapist, the post holder will have skills in managing a caseload of clients with complex neurological needs, including dysphasia and dysphagia management. Training and experience in LSVT and VF would be an advantage, but not essential.
The post holder will have a key role in the development of the Speech and Language service and other projects within the multi-disciplinary team.
Continuing professional development is actively supported via clinical supervision, annual Personal Development Plans, post-graduate and in-service training from a uni-professional and multi-disciplinary point of view. Supervision of students is actively encouraged.
Main duties of the job
To provide assessment and treatment of stroke and neurology patients in the community, who may have complex and/ or chronic presentation.
To be a source of expertise and undertake a significant clinical caseload to a high professional standard, using specialist knowledge from theoretical and practical experience.
To participate in teaching, training, and supervision
To be responsible for line managing and clinically supervising assistants and students.
To take a key role in the future development of the MDT service
To work as an autonomous practitioner being professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your work, managing own caseload and maintaining patient and own records.
To plan, co-ordinate and evaluate the service provided to neurological patients in the community setting.
To develop competencies in community Videofluoroscopy and/or FEES clinics
