Job summary

This is an exceptional career opportunity for an experienced, high calibre pharmacist looking to further advance their career and develop leadership, clinical and prescribing skills within Adult Intestinal Rehabilitation and Nutrition services at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Intestinal Rehabilitation Service (IRS) at St George's Hospital is a tertiary-level specialist service dedicated to the assessment and management of patients with severe intestinal failure within southwest London. The IRS is led by a multi-disciplinary team who provide a comprehensive approach to patients with intestinal failure receiving parenteral (feeding intravenously) or enteral (tube feeding) nutrition. The role of the team is to assess, manage and support individuals with intestinal failure, both as inpatients and in the community, and to help them lead as full lives as possible. The postholder will work within the close-knit team of consultant gastroenterologists, highly specialist dietitians, and clinical nurse specialists, as well as with senior managers and clinicians within the Gastroenterology and Therapies Directorates.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic pharmacist to join our service and support the ongoing delivery and development of high-quality, comprehensive clinical pharmacy services for our patients. Our service operates under established agreements with partner Trusts, including The Royal Marsden and St Mark's.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide strong clinical expertise and leadership, supporting the parenteral nutrition multidisciplinary team at Royal Marsden Hospital develop these collaborative initiatives.

The postholder will also work closely with the Principal Pharmacist for Intestinal Rehabilitation and Nutrition to strengthen links with the St Mark's IRS pharmacy service. This will involve reviewing and developing shared processes, pathways, guidelines, and other areas of mutual relevance across both services.

The successful candidate will receive a thorough and supportive induction covering all aspects of Trust activity, alongside mentorship from senior pharmacy staff, and will join a team committed to supporting your growth and ongoing professional development.

About us

As part of the recently formed West London Intestinal Rehabilitation Service, we are proud to have joined with St Mark's Hospital (the National Reference Centre for the south of England) to deliver care equally in the north and south parts of West London, as well as for the Kent and East Surrey areas. This collaborative approach between the two hospitals enables us to provide high quality integrated surgical and medical care for patients in West London and beyond. We have also established close links with our partner Trusts within SW London (including Royal Marsden Hospital) to offer support and advice relating to patients with intestinal failure who may be admitted to their local hospital

The Pharmacy Service at St George's is highly regarded across the Trust and region, with around 270 staff members working closely with multi-disciplinary teams. Identify and support the facilitation of CIPs within the relevant directorate and participate in financial reporting and drug budget management.

Progress service improvement initiatives through multi-disciplinary working to ensure safe and timely provision of medicines.

To participate in service development and evaluation, audit, research, risk management and clinical guideline development, both within St. Georges and in conjunction with St. Marks in line with the West London Intestinal Rehabilitation Service.
