Band 7- Highly Specialist GI Surgery Dietitian

Job summary

We are seeking an experienced dietitian to join our GI surgery team at St George's NHS Foundation Trust. This role has arisen due to a flexible working request and will involve 0.4 WTE (15 hours per week), working alongside our existing Band 7 dietitian, who will cover the remaining 0.6 WTE.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, dynamic, and possess excellent team-working, communication, and organisational skills. Experience in surgery, Type 1 intestinal failure, and nutrition support is essential, with critical care experience being desirable.

Our surgical department specialises in upper and lower GI including cancer, bariatrics and inflammatory bowel disease. The post-holder will work with their colleague to provide and develop a specialist, evidence-based dietetic service, aligned with enhanced recovery principles.

This role predominantly involves inpatient care and plays a key role within established and well-respected multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will also contribute to service improvement projects and demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development. Additionally, the post includes managing a Band 6 Gastro dietitian and supporting colleagues across the wider gastrointestinal dietetic team.

Main duties of the job

To work as a member of the GI dietetic team at St Georges Hospital. To be responsible for providing a highly specialist dietetic service to gastrointestinal surgery patients (upper and lower GI); following evidence-based practice, being an active multidisciplinary team member, educator, developing nutrition policies and guidelines, participating in audit and research related to GI surgical patients to improve health outcomes and develop the role and service.
