We are seeking an experienced senior staff nurse, with a minimum of 2 years experience within an acute surgical setting. However, experienced nurses with relevant experience and an interest in the specialty are encouraged to apply. We will be keen to support you and your application will most definitely be considered. Main duties of the job
Our General surgery Department provides acute services to St Georges Hospitals and to an extensive tertiary network. Gray ward is a dynamic and high acuity, 32 bedded general surgery ward. Our primary focus is upper GI and colorectal specialties, whilst we also treat urology, T&O, ENT and gynaecology patients. You will be part of the team that looks after patients on arrival from A&E and throughout their surgical journey until they are discharged. We have a mixture of short & long stay patients including patients stepped down from ICU who have complex nursing needs. These include early detection of deteriorating patients, specialist drain and stoma care, complex pain and wound management among others! We are also a specialist bariatric centre and care for patients with complex nutritional needs including parenteral nutrition.
The successful candidate will regularly take on the 'Nurse in Charge' role as well as deputise for the ward manager in their absence. They are expected to coordinate both patients & staff daily & ensure high standards of care are maintained. They will be allocated their own team of staff to support and perform 1:1s and appraisals. They will be supported to perform roster management, quality audit and incident investigation among others. They must be flexible and on occasion assist in providing cover for other wards. You will be expected to be proactive in role modelling, supporting and encouraging junior staff as St Georges' is a teaching hospital.
