Job summary

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Clinical Scientist to join our Assistive Technology Service based at Queen Marys Hospital, Roehampton.

The successful applicant will join the team providing assessment, installation and maintenance of environmental controls throughout the commissioned area (South West London, Surrey and West Sussex).

A driver with full license and access to a car is therefore essential.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join our existing friendly team at Queen Marys Hospital comprising of one Occupational Therapist, three Engineers, one Technician and one Team Administrator.

You will be encouraged to develop specialist knowledge of the equipment provided by the service, leading in the assessment, review and provision, including mounting solutions and the service's quality management system.

You will support the service lead in providing professional and clinical leadership for the team. This will include day to day supervision, setting objectives and priorities, monitoring/reviewing performance, absence management, recruitment and conducting appraisals.

In addition, you will contribute to research, development, and audit relevant to the service.

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant Clinical Science/ Engineering/Physics discipline
  • Registered, as a Clinical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Full Member, or eligible for full membership, of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM)

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to carry out complex assessments of client needs and provide and monitor technological solutions. This may involve specialist assessment for mobility, communication, computer access and environmental control access for clients with severe disabilities.
  • Ability to problem solve complex (assistive technology) clinical problems.
  • Significant relevant clinical skills gained during a postgraduate period.
  • Skills to promote the service to the public and other health, education and social service professionals.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience in the field of applying electronic assistive technology in clinical practice
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge in the field of assistive technology, requiring a relevant degree or equivalent or demonstration of the ability to acquire highly developed specialist knowledge in the field of assistive technology.
  • Knowledge of disability legislation
  • Knowledge of the major disabling medical conditions to include prognosis and physical and neurological impairments

Desirable

  • Experience of developing others through CPD/PDP/Clinical Supervision
  • Experience in managing staffing issues e.g. performance issues

Other relevant requirements

  • Able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and face the challenge of conflicting priorities, concentrate on several aspects of a complex situation with frequent urgent interruptions
  • Have a commitment to CPD and professional development
