St George's University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in Tooting, South West London, is a large teaching hospital with a tertiary maternity unit providing care to over 4500 women/ birthing people and babies each year. We take great pride in providing a midwifery service that delivers holistic individual-centred care to our diverse local community. Our enthusiastic multidisciplinary maternity team work in close collaboration in order to meet the specific needs of women/ birthing people who come from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We strive to ensure a positive pregnancy and birth experience for women/ birthing people with both complex and uncomplicated pregnancies, excelling both in the provision of high risk care for women/ birthing people who require medical input and increasing our homebirth rate whilst promoting our midwife-led birth centre.

Main duties of the job

In conjunction with NHS England, in 2018, we commenced the offer of maternal Flu and Pertussis vaccinations. A vaccination team of two Band 5 nurses/midwives with administrative support was created and the role of the team is to focus on the successful implementation of the national maternal vaccination programme. In 2024, the new maternal vaccine, Respiratory Syncytial virus (RSV) will commence.

Our new Band 6 nurse will lead us through these changes under the guidance of the Consultant Midwife for Public health and the Infectious Diseases lead midwife.

The successful applicants will possess excellent time management skills; have evidence of experience in both team and change management and an ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within the specialist team. Any potential candidate must meet the essential criteria and be flexible within the team working patterns to meet the needs of this weekday service.

The vaccination team posts are currently funded by NHS England. The immunisation nurses will report directly to the project lead, the Consultant Midwife for Public Health, but line managed by the Infectious Disease Lead midwife.

If you would like further information or an informal visit before applying and or to discuss the role, please contact Chelone Lee-Wo, Consultant Midwife for Public Health on 07884 086523.
