Bader Gym Exercise Facilitator

Job summary

The Bader Gym is situated in the new Queen Mary's Hospital and is run by St Georges University Hospital, Community Services Directorate. It is a specialist, purpose designed exercise facility and is open for use by people of all ages.

The Bader Gym provides a service to able bodied users as well as users with a range of medical conditions including learning disabilities and mental health issues, as well as a range of physical conditions.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of the Exercise Facilitator is to co-ordinate the running of the Bader gym and supervise the 3 Fitness Instructors as well as assessing clients' fitness needs and design suitable exercise programmes for them. You will oversee the daily running of the Bader gym; advise clients regarding the use of the equipment; monitor and ensure safe practice in the use of the facilities and be involved with running group exercise classes.

The successful candidate will have a recognised gym instructor qualification with significant experience within a gym environment; have excellent communication skills and a professional manner. You will have patience and understanding of the needs of others and enjoy working with a variety of people including disabled users

About us

The Bader gym team is an established team comprised of 1 full time and 2 part time fitness instructors.

The gym is open Mon - Fri from 8am - 5pm and offers exercise provision to a range of clients as well as patients being treated within the rehabilitation wards in the hospital.

It also offers free access to staff as part of the health and well being initiatives of the trust for its staff

  • Level 3 Fitness Instructor/personal trainer qualification
  • Acitve registration with UK regulatory body - e.g CIMSPA or BASES

Desirable

  • Phase 4 Cardiac Rehabilitation training
  • GP on Referral Scheme qualification
  • ACSM certified exercise physiologist

Experience

Essential

  • Solid experience in the Leisure industry or a gym with organising and teaching a variety of exercise and movement related activities
  • Strong Customer Care with all ages
  • Experience of Working as part of a team
  • Working with service users with complex physical and mental health needs
  • Experience of supervising staff
  • Experience of screening, accessing and designing individual and group based exercise programmes
