Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

Job summary

Exciting and dynamic role assessing, treating and managing caseload of adults with acquired communication and/or swallowing disorders on acute neurosurgical wards. This will include supervision and support to develop specialist clinical skills in the area of acute neurosciences, alongside opportunities to develop instrumental assessment and tracheostomy competencies. You will be required to hold a large complex caseload all the while developing advanced clinical skills in a supportive environment, to manage the various etiologies.

Main duties of the job

-Assessing, treating and managing caseload of adults with acquired communication and/or swallowing disorders relevant to specialist SLT skills

- Making differential diagnosis on the basis of evidence from assessment.

- Devising, implementing and evaluating individualised treatment programmes

- Referral to instrumental assessments of swallowing

- Counselling and advising others regarding the management and care of patients with communication and/or feeding and swallowing difficulties.

- Managing and prioritising own caseload and workload independently.

- Liaise with other colleagues and professional groups and referring patients for further investigation and/or second opinions as required.

-Maintaining adequate records of assessment, management, and treatment of patients.

About us

An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join our highly skilled Speech and Language Therapy service and work within the neurosciences department. This post holder will carry a caseload covering neurosurgical wards with support to the neuro-cardiology, neurology and trauma teams. They will have the opportunity to work on our instrumental assessment rotas and work towards relevant clinical competencies. The post holder will have experience providing SLT assessment and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders within an MDT setting. The post holder will carry their own caseload and have an important role in liaising with other specialist services to optimise patient outcomes.

The post holder will receive regular supervision and support to develop specialist clinical skills. They will be joining a highly supportive and innovative Speech and Language Therapy Department, offering well established CPD and learning opportunities.

Experience

  • Relevant experience as a Speech & Language Therapist
