Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Microbiology (Maternity cover)

This vacancy is for 0.6 WTE bacteriology post for maternity leave cover. Please note, this will not be an automatic 12 month fixed term post, as must align with your start date and the amount of planned maternity leave remaining for the employee you will be covering.

South West London Pathology is an award winning pathology partnership between four Hospital Trusts - St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Croydon Health Services NHS Trust and Epsom & St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust - designed to provide an integrated, high quality pathology service for hospitals and GPs across South West London, by bringing together the best of each Trust's service and providing them within a single organisation.

The Microbiology department at St George's has state of the art equipment, offering full laboratory automation and a vast array of molecular platforms. The laboratory prides itself on its innovative and progressive approach to Microbiology.

Main duties of the job

Microbiology at SWLP is looking for six Specialist Biomedical Scientists to join our dynamic, friendly team . You will be deployed in Microbiology at the St George's site. The department offers the latest equipment in the Microbiology field with three Kiestra lines, MALDI-ToF technology, Uri-system, Liaison XLs, EntericBio, BD FX, MGIT and Phoenix. There is an automated Serology track system and a specialised Molecular service including high throughput analysers.

The department also offers an extensive screening program for latent TB for the London region.

The post holder will be expected to have good knowledge and experience in Microbiology in addition to being able to demonstrate excellent problem solving skills.

You will be expected to participate in a 24/7 shift system which includes weekend, night, late and bank holiday working as part of hours.
