Job summary
- An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Health Care Assistant to work full time on Nye Bevan Unit in St Georges Hospital.
- Nye Bevan Unit is a Platinum awarded Emergency Surgical Assessment unit that specialises in the care of patients with Maxfax, General Surgical, urological, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Gynaecological and ENT conditions.
- We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic healthcare assistant with a desire to provide effective and efficient care.
- You will need to be responsive to the changing demands and priorities on the unit and show a willingness to undertake extended roles.
- The role of Band 3 Healthcare Assistant is fundamental here, and the applicant would work as a skilled member of the team ensuring a high standard of care was delivered all to patients.
- Applicants must have experience working as a Band 2 in a surgical setting or be currently working as a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant with an NHS Care Certificate.
- The Unit has an excellent team of Nursing, Medical and Support staff who have extremely high standards and give exemplary patient care. Each member of the team endeavours to ensure that our patients receive the best possible patient experience.
- You should possess good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- A kind, caring, compassionate and professional attitude is essential along with being able to work in a busy environment.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the clinical team in assessing, treating, and caring for patients in Emergency Surgical Assessment Unit by:
- Supporting the clinician.
- Work within an interdisciplinary team of nursing, medical and clericals to perform investigations.
- Transferring patients to wards, theatres and various other areas within the hospital.
- Undertaking routine phlebotomy and cannulation (desirable).
- Performing routine observations and assessment including weight, height, blood pressure, vital signs, urinalysis and pregnancy testing.
- Answering the telephone and dealing with patient queries and passing on messages to the team as necessary.
- Ensuring all areas of the ward, the clinic and patient waiting room are clean and stocked appropriately
- Ordering laboratory and clinical supplies and ensuring stock levels are maintained
