Consultant midwife for Maternal Medicine Band 8C

We are looking for an experienced midwife to lead in the delivery of the dynamic maternal Medicines service. If you have a passion for promoting excellence in complex care, we want to hear from you. The post holder will be expected to have significant input into the implementation of national and local healthcare policy and into developing innovative ways of delivering the service. This will include developing collaborative relationships with other local units both in and outside the Trust.

As Consultant Midwife you will be key to the ongoing development of a significantly well-established maternal medicine services here at St. George's. The Consultant Midwife role is service driven and structured around the Department of Health (DH) guidance across the four domains of consultant practice continuously building on these. You will practice clinically at least 50% of the time according to the service needs and 50% related to leading the development, delivery and implementation of a strategy for an Advanced Clinical Practitioner workforce in the maternity. You will have the authority to develop and lead clinical services, advanced practice midwifery roles, audit and research projects within the department services.

Main duties of the job

As Consultant Midwife you will work collaboratively with our clinicians, managers and service users to ensure there is a robust process in place to manage this complex service and improve patient safety. The postholder will be an expert leader, educator, and clinical practitioner in maternity care for women with high-risk pregnancies, complicated by complex medical disorders. They will manage the team of midwives and work closely with the Consultant Obstetricians in the delivery of care. There is maternity service on call responsibility with this post. The post holder will work closely with the Director of Midwifery and Gynaecology Nursing, Deputy Director of Midwifery and Gynaecology Nursing and Senior leadership team to sustain progress on improvements following our CQC report.
