Job summary

  • To develop and maintain specialist skills in order to provide the highest standard of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised patient care.
  • To promote a friendly and supportive atmosphere for parents and relatives in which they can learn to care for their babies.
  • To utilise a variety of strategies to communicate effectively with the neonate's family / carers, the multidisciplinary team, other departments within the Trust and pertinent agencies outside the organisation

Main duties of the job

  • St George's Neonatal Unit is a perinatal medical and surgical referral centre, covering the South West London sector and beyond.
  • The unit has a capacity of 40 cots, 12 of which are intensive care, 12 high dependency and 16 special care.
  • We have a large medical and nursing establishment of 190 staff with a range of nursing positions from Neonatal Assistants to Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners.
  • Exciting opportunities are now available for Band 5 staff nurses with an interest in neonatal care as a career.
  • You may be newly qualified, or alternatively, already have previous NHS experience in acute care.
  • The service offers a comprehensive Induction Programme, Preceptorship and accredited Work Based Learning competencies.
  • In addition to modules in the speciality, the unit also provides In-service education days, CPAP study days and IV Administration training.
