Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with previous security experience to develop their skills as part of an enthusiastic team providing a professional and welcoming 'front of house' service to our women and families. The successful candidate should have experience as a security officer and face-to-face customer service, a flexible approach to their work and be professional, punctual and reliable. You should be hard working and focused on providing the best service possible for women and their families.

You will work as part of the Maternity team assisting in the smooth running of the busy postnatal ward by meeting and greeting mothers and their partners'.

The post holder will act as the first point of reference for everyone entering the inpatient areas. Duties include ensuring correct and updated list of admission and discharges. Communicating and collaborating and with the Trust wider security team as needed.

It is essential that you have experience with dealing with the public. It would be desirable if you have experience of working within a hospital environment.

As our Maternity Unit is an acute area the position has fixed shifts of 10:00am - 20:00hrs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Main duties of the job

To ensure and maintain the safety of mothers and their babies in the inpatient areas of the maternity service.

To maintain an up to date record of all visitors to the maternity inpatient areas

To maintain all equipment and uniform supplied to you in a clean and presentable manner, full uniform must be worn at all times while on duty in the line with the uniform protocol

To respond immediately to all fire alert calls, taking action in line with the Trust fire procedures, to minimise the risk to life and assets. To ensure fire escape routes are clear and equipment are in working order and fully accessible at all times and current relevant fire legislation is being complied with.

To respond to calls from ward/department staff to deal with patients who are being violent, abusive, disruptive or have absconded from the ward, assess the situation and take appropriate action to resolve the situation taking relevant factors into consideration.

Ensure that visitors of all kinds are courteously received, assisted and directed in a manner which will reflect credit to the Trust.

To report security defects or omissions in the maternity unit in a timely and accurate manner.

Respond to intruder security alarms, inspect for signs of break-in, search for suspects, in a safe manner and liaise with the Police.
