Job summary
o To practice independently as a Nurse Colposcopist, accredited by the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP).
To hold the Colposcopy Screening Programme Lead (CSPL) role as set out by Public Health England (PHE) for the Trust
o To work as an advanced practitioner and effectively lead and deliver an expert nursing service within the Colposcopy Department.
o To manage and develop the Colposcopy nursing team acting as a professional leader to provide high quality care to women accessing this service
o To maintain a cost-effective service, based upon the objectives of the department, care group and the Trust.
o To manage a caseload of patients within Women's Services
o To ensure that patients and their families are fully informed and supported by providing clinical and social support
o To assist in the development of evidence based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines
o To work in collaboration with medical and nursing staff, the management team, patient pathway co-ordinators, patient pathway administrators and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless delivery of care.
Main duties of the job
The main responsibilities for the lead colposcopy nurse are to:
- Support the lead colposcopist in the development and review of evidence based local guidelines, procedures and patient information documents.
- Support the lead colposcopist in the acquisition and validation of data to support the production of quarterly and annual performance information, including the mandatory KC65 return.
- Support, and represent the views of, colposcopy nurses within the department.
- Support, and represent the views of, other support staff within the colposcopy department.
- Ensure appropriate and safe staffing levels.
- Co-ordinate the training of nursing and administration staff within colposcopy, ensuring competence within their respective roles
- Ensure standards are maintained within the clinical environment, supporting the failsafe processes.
- Ensure the provision of an appropriate clinical environment for the day to day delivery of colposcopy that meets standards.
- Ensure nursing and administration staff within the colposcopy service meet mandatory training requirements.
