Job summary
- To support and deputise for the Theatre Sister or Charge Nurse/ODP to ensure the provision of excellent nursing care and the effective management of staff and other resources.
- Also to carry out the day-to-day management and co-ordination of the theatre area /department.
- To take charge of the unit on a regular basis and manage a cohort of staff in the department with minimal supervision.
- To ensure that there are education and training opportunities for all staff, including pre and post registration students and /or providing specialist knowledge if working in a clinical area where a post registration course is essential e.g. critical care setting.
Main duties of the job
- We are looking for enthusiastic Band 5 RN/ODP or band 6 scrub staff nurses/ ODP who are interested in gaining further leadership and management skills in this innovative and busy specialty.
- Successful post holder will already possess excellent communication skills and enjoy working in a small, busy and dedicated team.
- You will need to be RN or Registered ODP with a minimum of 2 years' experience in scrub ( at least 1year in EMERGENCY/ VASCULAR theatres) at band 5/6 level.
- The successful applicants must have experience in scrubbing for complex GENERAL, VASCULAR, ENT ,MAX FAX AND PLASTIC cases.
- The post holder will be also working weekends , bank holidays and night duty as part of their rota rotation.,
- The successful applicant will be expected to support their Band 7 Team Leader through effective leadership and management of the team and the ability to prioritise and organise the day to day running of theatres.
- A positive approach which focuses on supporting and motivating others is essential as well as ability to challenge poor practice and behaviours.
- This position will require someone that is confident in their knowledge anddelivery of excellence in every aspect of patient care and day to day leadership.
- They will be visible and assertive figure for staff, patients and relatives and able demonstrate commitment to delivering a safe, high quality current evidence based practice.
