Job summary

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our Vascular Surgery Department as a full time Medical Secretary fixed term secondment cover ending 19/11/2025. The post provides an excellent opportunity to further your career as a healthcare administrator, working within a thriving surgical service.

We are looking for someone with good experience within the NHS, who is enthusiastic and willing to learn. You will need to have excellent communication skills and be able to demonstrate that you can work strongly within a team. You will need to liaise with patients of all ages, clinicians at all levels and managers within the Trust and at external organisations. Time management skills are also essential as you will need to balance the demands of a very busy workload.

The Vascular Surgery department provides excellent patient care and positive patient experiences, always reflecting the trust values.

Main duties of the job

To ensure the provision of comprehensive secretarial and administrative support at a Senior level to Consultants and clinical teams within the department.To provide efficient and high quality secretarial and administrative support to the Consultant body and other clinicians including requesting cancellation of clinical activities due to leave.To participate in preparation for departmental audits/meetings, preparing agendas and minute takingTo ensure the safe and efficient communication between Consultants and scheduling for weekly meetings when required.To demonstrate excellent communication skills to allow the highest level of support to Consultants and the supporting team.To work in close co-operation with staff and other health professionals within the Multi-Disciplinary Team to ensure a first class service to patients and staff.To liaise closely with and be an active and supportive member of the wider team within the departmentTo support the Speciality Manager with RTT validation i.e. booking /cancelling appointment, liaising with clinician and other staff etc.

Essential

  • Good general education including GCSE in Maths or English (or equivalent)
  • Typing 60 WPM minimum
  • RSA III or equivalent experience
  • AMSPAR Diploma
  • Dictate 3 or equivalent experience

  • Customer care course (or equivalent experience)
  • Higher level education, qualification in business administration or and admin NVQ

  • Significant and current secretarial/ administration experience as a medical secretary
  • Experience of working within a hospital
