Paediatric Oncology Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Job summary

  • To deliver an advanced level of care and play a key role in the clinical management of paediatric oncology patients, acting as a role model and expert practitioner in paediatric oncology and paediatric venous access.
  • The post holder will be practicing autonomously as an ACP to provide patient-centred quality care.
  • This will encompass the skills of advanced assessment, examination, diagnosis and management within an agreed scope of practice.
  • To work within the multi-professional framework for advanced clinical practice in England (HEE2017).
  • The post holder will deliver an 80% clinical component to their role and 20% related to leadership and management, education and research.

Main duties of the job

  • Practice in compliance with the NMC code of professional conduct.
  • Autonomously work in partnership with individuals, families and carers, managing a caseload of patients using a range of advanced assessment methods as appropriate (e.g. history taking, physical examination, identifying risk factors, mental health assessments).
  • To be an expert practitioner and role model in the field of paediatric oncology nursing and paediatric venous access, providing consultancy in these fields for all nursing and medical staff across the Trust, demonstrating advanced knowledge and skills.
  • Use expertise and decision-making skills to inform clinical reasoning approaches when dealing with differentiated and undifferentiated individual presentations and complex situations, synthesising information from multiple sources to make appropriate, evidence-based judgements and/or diagnosed.
  • To be responsible, in conjunction with the medical staff, for co-ordinating the admission, assessment and discharge arrangements for paediatric oncology patients, both PTC oncology patients and POSCU shared care patients.

Experience

  • o7 years post-registration experience, of which 2 years should be at band 6 and 2 years at band 7 within paediatric oncology services

  • oParticipation in audit and research
  • oEvidence of multidisciplinary working
