Qualifications and Training

Essential

• oDegree or equivalent in physiotherapy
• oHPC registration
• oEvidence of CPD in musculoskeletal physiotherapy in the form of a detailed personal development portfolio
• oPostgraduate education/courses in musculoskeletal physiotherapy
• oRelevant special interest group membership
• oMasters Degree or evidence of working at an equivalent level in musculoskeletal physiotherapy

Desirable

• oFormal management training
• oMSc in musculoskeletal physiotherapy
• oMACP or equivalent clinical membership
• oLeadership training

Experience

Essential

• oMinimum 4 years post registration experience of which 2 years are out-patient musculoskeletal physiotherapy at Band 6 level to include Consultant referrals , GP referrals, Rheumatology, Orthopaedic In-patients, Chronic Pain Management
• oExperience of Classes/Group work/Circuits
• oAt least 1 year's experience of working in the NHS or equivalent
• oGood knowledge of complex pain syndromes
• oAdvanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology underlying musculoskeletal injuries
• oGood working knowledge of all areas of Clinical Governance Including quality, audit and risk management
• oUnderstands the legal responsibilities of the profession
• oGood understanding of research statistics and their evaluation and experience of their use
• oBasic understanding of computers and their applications
• oExperience of performance management of physiotherapists and students
• oExperience in teaching other members of the MDT team
• oExperience of undertaking clinical audit
• oLone working experience

Desirable

• oExperience of: Hydrotherapy, Women's Health, Hands and Plastics, A&E
• oExperience of service developments
• oExperience with spreadsheets/data collection
• oExperience of organising and chairing meetings
• oExperience of lecturing externally
• oExperience of the research process
• oExperience of operational team management
• oPrevious experience at Band 7 in musculoskeletal physiotherapy
• oParticipation in weekend orthopaedic service

Essential

• oFluent in written and oral English, with the ability to communicate complex/contentious information in a clear and logical manner to a range of audiences e.g. service users, carers, other professionals, stakeholders
• oAdvanced clinical reasoning skills in musculoskeletal physiotherapy
• oResearch skills
• oAbility to keep legible and accurate notes in English in the POMR system
• oGood presentation skills
• oGood teaching, supervisory & appraisal skills
• oProven organisational skills including prioritisation and delegation
• oAbility to lead and motivate others within the team
• oAdvanced report writing skills
• oAbility to work autonomously within specialist clinical area
• oOn-call skills within orthopaedic specialist area and able to provide advice and patient assessment as a lone physiotherapist in an on-call situation
• oAble to lead team training
• oAbility to comprehend and work within the Trust's policies of data protection, equal opportunities and health and safety to meet the differing needs of patients
• oAbility to be self-motivated

• oActively involved in research and contribution to evidenced based practice
