Clinical Fellow in Paediatrics ST1-3 , fixed-term, 6 months
Applications are invited for a fixed term 6 month ST1-3 level post within the Department of Paediatric Medicine at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, London..
This post has been designed to provide training and experience in all aspects of acute paediatrics and is suitable for an FY3 post or someone looking for more UK experience in paediatrics. Clinical duties will be split between acute general paediatrics, including out of hours on call, and experience in paediatric medical and surgical subspecialties.

This clinical fellow appointment's duties will involve daily assessment of the children, planning of treatment, organising and arranging investigations, and liaison with other departments and teams.
The clinical fellow will take part in the cover of ED working some evening and night sessions. On occasion the postholder will be managing children outside their ward to cover leave or sickness in colleagues.

St Georges Hospital is a major teaching hospital in SW London. The Children's service offers a wide range of acute general and specialist tertiary services and was recently rated as outstanding by the CQC. It serves a resident population of approximately 300,000 within the Merton, Sutton, and Wandsworth localities and the Children's ED sees over 35,000 patients per year. Referrals are also received from all across Southern England and the Trust is one of London's major trauma centres. The acute general paediatrics team consists of 11 WTE consultant paediatricians, operating an attending system, with a team of ST trainees, clinical fellows and FY doctors. The entire paediatric department has over 35 consultants managing infectious diseases, haematology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, respiratory, neurology and surgical patients. St George's paediatric department is a highly rated teaching and training centre with a diverse education programme.

General Paediatrics:
This post will suit those wishing to gain substantial experience in a large, well supervised unit with a mixed general and subspecialist patient group. Training can be tailored to needs of the postholder but there are opportunities to experience emergency care, ambulatory care and care of complex children. Duties will involve daily assessment of the children, planning of treatment, organising and arranging investigations, and liaison with other departments and teams.
Paediatric Infectious Diseases/oncology:
You will be part of the ward team caring for all patients on Pinckney ward, the paediatric infectious diseases and oncology ward. Children admitted to Pinckney ward have a variety of infectious conditions such as tuberculosis, meningitis and HIV. You will also be involved in caring for patients with an oncological diagnosis who are admitted either for chemotherapy or febrile illness. You will have the opportunity to attend infectious diseases meeting, and attend specialty clinics.
Paediatric Surgery:
St Georges is the regional referral centre for children requiring paediatric surgery. Children are admitted electively for a range of procedures, many of these with co-morbid medical conditions and complex needs. Acutely children are also referred for emergency surgery from regional hospitals.
Paediatric Neurosciences:
St Georges is also a regional neurosurgical centre and hosts regional tertiary paediatric neurology. The teams work closely in the care of children with complex needs and provide a number of specialist treatments. St Georges is also a major trauma centre and provides care for children with the sequelae of major trauma. Duties will involve daily assessment of the children, participating in neurosurgical and neurology consultant led ward rounds, and working with the specialists to arrange investigations and treatment.
Paediatric Community Services:
The paediatric neurodevelopmental, neurodisability and epilepsy service is well established and offers a child-centred, consultant led service. It is part of the integrated child health department of St Georges Hospital and offers a comprehensive service for a wide range of neurodevelopmental problems (including ADHD and ASD), complex neurodisability, Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy. The ADHD Service is a specialist Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) service within the developmental paediatric team. The service supports parents and children through the assessment, diagnosis and management of ADHD. We take referrals of children under the age of 11 years old who are registered with a GP in the Borough of Wandsworth. We provide follow up care for children who are under our service, until they are old enough to transition to adult services.
