All applicants must hold Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC) status and have significant number of years post qualification experience of working in a clinical coding department.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the job:
- Develop, manage and coordinate the coding function at divisional level ensuring compliance with data submission targets and national standards.
- Develop and deliver training packages for clinical coders, clinicians and managers to improve knowledge of clinical coding and related topics.
- Provide assurance of the accuracy and completeness of clinical coding through supporting the department's programme of coding audit.
- Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of clinical coding strategy, policy and systems to ensure a clinical coding service which meets best practice guidance.
- Provide expert knowledge in the use of clinical coding classifications and associated systems.
- Improve the quality of coded data by delivering coding awareness session s to staff groups throughout the organisation; this will require sound knowledge of HRG tariffs and Mortality indices.

Clinical Coding Department is the biggest team under the Finance Directorate. The team is divided into 3 Divisions - Medicine, Surgery, and Women and Children. The team codes approximately 15,000 FCEs each month and activities range from minor to complex cases.
