Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our Recovery team at the 23 Hour / Day Surgery Unit.

We are very proud of the high level of care we provide to our patients which is reflected in our patient feedback

We provide pre, intra and post-operative care to patients undergoing General Surgery, Urology, Dental, ENT, Orthopaedic, Gynaecology, Vascular and Breast Surgery, acute surgical and trauma patients.

The Day Procedure Unit plays a vital role in education and training of nurses general, ODP's and trainee anaesthetist in the speciality of day surgery. We understand that delivering an excellent learning environment for the staff is vital in maintaining staff growth, so the ethos of new learning and development is keenly supported. The teams are supported in the care giving processes through set protocols and guidelines many of which are being developed by the Day Procedure team.

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, motivated and flexible team player with a keen interest in this speciality.The post is permanent, full time and includes flexible working patterns both day and night shifts to suit the service needs.Previous Day Surgery /23 hour experience is desirable although not essential.

Main duties of the job

Working within our department, your main duties will include:

  • Providing direct patient care , being responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care of patients
  • Identifying individual patient requirements and acting effectively on changing needs, liaising with and directing relevant staff.
  • Organising time, equipment and staff to deliver safe and efficient patient care.
  • Giving skilled support to medical staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Administering drugs and treatments as prescribed in accordance with Trust Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Demonstrating effective communication within departments and multidisciplinary team.
  • Advising patients, theircarersand other staff on the promotion of health and prevention of illness.
  • Recognising situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individual and institutes preventative measures.
  • Identifyingthe priorities of care for patients, liaising with and directing relevant staff.
  • Organisingand participatingin the delivery of high standards ofevidence-based nursing care.

You will be required to work a range of shifts including Long Days, Twilights, Nights.

Currently there are no Weekends, and Bank Holidays shifts!
