Job summary

An exciting opportunity to join our paediatric services at St Georges Hospital in South London. The post holder will be part of our developing Advanced Clinical Practitioner team, and specialising in paediatric respiratory.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be practicing autonomously as an ACP to provide patient-centred quality care. This will encompass the skills of advanced assessment, examination, diagnosis and management within an agreed scope of practice, for babies, children and young people with any respiratory illness.

To work within the Multi-professional framework for advanced clinical practice in England (HEE 2017). The post holder will deliver an 80% clinical component to their role and 20% related to leadership and management, education and research

Job responsibilities

Clinical and professional

  • Autonomously work in partnership with individuals, families and carers, managing a caseload of patients using a range of advanced assessment methods as appropriate (e.g. history taking, physical examination, identifying risk factors) in the acute wards, PICU,NNU and the paediatric outpatient department
  • Use expertise and decision-making skills to inform clinical reasoning approaches when dealing with differentiated and undifferentiated individual presentations and complex situations, synthesising information from multiple sources to make appropriate, evidence-based judgements and/or diagnoses
  • Practice in compliance with their respective code of professional conduct
  • To work within locally agreed advanced clinical practice competence and capability being responsible and accountable for their decisions, actions and omissions at this level of practice
  • If within scope of practice and required in job role-
  • Be an independent or supplementary non-medical prescriber with Trust agreed scope of prescribing
  • Prescribe medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols
  • Undertake invasive procedures as appropriate to competence
  • Request appropriate medical imaging or other diagnostic tests in accordance to Trust policies and in accordance with nationally agreed protocols and policies
