An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time band 7 Weight Management Clinic Nurse Specialist in our Weight Management service at St George's University Hospital.

We are looking for someone who is a motivated enthusiastic about Medical weight management with excellent communication and team working skills to join our friendly Motivated team.

The post holder will provide a seamless service in the education, endocrine investigation and treatment of patients in the medical weight management services. The post holder will lead on national tier 3 service database collection locally with support from MDT team and lead for MOS.

The post holder is responsible and accountable for patients in the medical weight management pathway and work closely with Endocrine Investigation Unit for the provision of excellent care of patients within the Thomas Addison Unit.

Main duties of the job

The full-time band 7 nurse will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Triaging and assessing patients face to face and virtually who have obesity and complications
  • Offering diet & lifestyle education and support along with the wider multi-disciplinary team via face to face and group sessions. This will be supported by the Medical Weight management dietetic team.
  • Provide endocrine investigations as part of the obesity assessment. Training will be given by the Endocrine investigation unit and working as a team closely with diabetes and endocrine CNS within our unit.
  • Implementation of the medical management pathway prior to referral to Tier 4 and manage patient follow up appointments.
  • To support our role as a pilot site for the National Obesity Registry via data collection and input, and lead on this new initiative with the support of lead in MOS.
  • Internal and external training around obesity management
  • Working with the wider Bariatric Team to facilitate and smooth transition of the patient between the Tier 3 (medical) and Tier 4 (surgical) services.
  • Point of contact for our patients whilst in the Tier 3 programme to support them stay on track in their weight loss journey.
