An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 8a Principal Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to work within neurorehabilitation at St George's Hospital. The post is suitable for a highly experienced SLT who is dynamic and flexible with a commitment to new ways of working and has an innovative approach to patient centred care and efficient service delivery. The post holder will be responsible for leading and ensuring a high quality SLT service to 24 Level 1 neuro-rehabilitation beds including the Rapid Access Acute Rehabilitation service (RAAR). In addition to this, your team will provide a service to 4 acute TBI beds.
The successful post holder will assume lead responsibility for delivering clinical governance and service development including setting priorities for these services, in consultation with the SLT professional lead and Therapies Management Team. He/she will line manage staff within these teams, ensuring supervision, appraisal and development. They will manage and advise on complex cases, working alongside multidisciplinary staff to ensure highly specialist therapy programmes. They will work with consultants & multidisciplinary management teams within neurosciences and neurorehabilitation at St. George's Healthcare NHS Trust to ensure coordinated service delivery.

The post holder will lead team meetings, conduct audit and research projects and audit service provision. They will plan, deliver and evaluate specialist training to other professional and patients/clients and carers on all aspects of swallowing, speech, language and communication. He/ she will provide clinical education and training to Speech and Language Therapy students, MDT colleagues and other appropriate healthcare staff. The post holder may be required to take part in weekend working in line with the therapies seven day policy.
