Job summary

To collate, monitor and conduct basic analysis of all sources of data relating to PICU activity at St George's NHS Trust. To assist in producing standard and some ad hoc reports. To maintain, populate and assist in the development of the PICU database (MedICUs Paediatric), including submission to the national database (PICANet) and any other system required for PICU. To assist in collection of internal and external audit data and projects (saving Lives Essence of Care; Matching Michigan; Productive Ward; Health & Safety).

To provide support to the Director of PICU with a focus on ensuring PICU information and coding is accurate and national datasets are being completed.

Main duties of the job

Information Resources/Quality

  1. To acquire data for PICU database by interrogating both paper and IT systems in order to extract relevant information on PICU in accordance with data protection and confidentiality policies, taking all reasonable steps to follow up missing data.
  2. Review and audit SLAM and PCCMDS coding data on a monthly basis, supporting with income recovery.
  3. Work with the PICU team to ensure the service is compliant with recommended national datasets, completing and submitting data on a quarterly basis.
  4. To identify, organise and supervise audits to ensure service improvement.
  5. To abstract and analyse complex PICU patient records on iCLIP to ensure the accuracy of coding data and supervise the entry of relevant data on the MedICUs Paediatric database. Where necessary need to use judgement when procedures or diagnosis coding is not available to identify appropriate alternatives to ensure accurate coding for SUS/SLAM.
  6. Monitor complex PICU clinical documentation on iCLIP and escalate any problems that arise.
  7. Work with the PICU management team to implement solutions to identified problems with coding and other nationally submitted data
  8. Work with the PICU team to ensure all nationally required data is being collected appropriately.
  9. Work with the Director of PICU to review set up implementation of any new datasets as required.
