Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Clinical Biochemistry

South West London Pathology is an award-winning NHS pathology partnership set up by St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Croydon Health Services NHS Trust and Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to provide a single, integrated pathology service across South West London and beyond. On 1 May 2021, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust joined to form an expanded South West London Pathology partnership.

Main duties of the job

We are currently seeking to recruit to a Specialist Biomedical Scientist and are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated, hard-working individual able to demonstrate a flexible approach to work.

The Biochemistry Automation laboratory at St Helier has recently undergone extensive refurbishment providing the latest state-of-the-art technology to provide 24/7 analysis using Abbott Alinity instrumentation connected to a GLP track. The manual Biochemistry section providing manual extraction combined with automation techniques has been co-located with the Automation laboratory.

Biochemistry has an extensive Specialist Chemistry section including the measurement of biogenic amines, renal clearance, therapeutic drug monitoring and vitamin analysis.

The department also houses the South West Thames regional Newborn Screening laboratory.

The post holder will perform timely and accurate analysis for primary and secondary care samples.

About us

This post is based at St Helier Hospital however the post holder may be required to work at any of the South West London Pathology sites as and when necessary.Applications are invited from suitably qualified and motivated State Registered Biomedical Scientists to join a well-established team within the Biochemistry section of this busy department, which has full Clinical Pathology Accreditation. The department actively encourages further education and CPD activities.

  • HCPC Registration
  • Hold the IBMS Specialist Diploma in relevant discipline or equivalent experience

Knowledge and Experience

  • Proven experience post HCPC registration in the relevant discipline
  • Excellent working knowledge of specialist subject in relevant discipline
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Knowledge of health and safety issues
  • Experience of quality management systems
