Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join the St Georges Adult SLT service as the Principal SLT for Acute services.
The role will include the line management and oversight of all aspects of operational and clinical leadership of the acute SLT team. The team is comprised of two Band 7s, two Band 6s and two Band 5s and covers 33 wards including a wide range of specialities such as Critical Care (General and Cardiothoracic ICUs), Cardiology, Respiratory, Oncology, Renal,Senior Health, General Medicine including the Acute Medical Unit.
The successful post holder will be highly experienced in the management of an acute adult Speech and Language Therapy caseload and will have advanced clinical skills including competencies in the management of patient in ICU and who are ventilator dependent. They will provide joint sessions, second opinions and highly specialist treatment and advice forpatients across the acute caseload.

Main duties of the job
The successful post holder will be responsible for the operational and clinical leadership of the weekly inpatient and community videofluoroscopy clinics which are based out of both St. George's Hospital and Queen Mary's Hospital. This will include the co-ordination and oversight of training SLTs up to competency in videofluoroscopy.
The post holder will also provide clinical supervision to one/two Speech and Language Therapists within Adult Community services.
The role will involve working with relevant Care Groups and MDTs to support SLT work throughout patient pathways. The multi-site and team involvement will ensure the post holder is able to support the integration and transition of care across services and look for opportunities to optimise flow across the department.
The post holder will be supported with continuing professional development and as part of a large and progressive department within a large teaching Trust there will be the opportunity to access training, lead on quality improvement initiatives and implement Trust and NHS wide strategy. They will participate in clinical supervision and annual personal development appraisals.

- Recognised speech and language therapy degree qualification or equivilent
- Health Professions Council - License to Practice
- Registered Member of RCSLT
- Evidence of successful completion of Masters degree or specialist development and training such as Advanced Dysphagia, Tracheostomy management, FEES, aphasiology
- Experiential and advanced training as evidenced by highly structured self-directed study using regular appraisal of research & evidence base for specialist clinical area.

- Significant post qualification experience of working in the field of Acute Medicine
- Assessment ,treatment and management of highly complex clients with acquired neurological communication disorders; apraxia, aphasia, cognitive communication disorder, dysarthria

- Coaching / developing reflective clinical practice in less experienced staff.
