Job summary
St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a driven and dynamic clinical/counselling psychologist to take up this interesting role split across two of our teams. The post is split across our innovative multidisciplinary Cancer Psychological Support (CaPS) team [2 days] and the St George's Rapid Diagnostic Cancer Clinic (RDCC) [1 day].
"We would consider applications from Band 7 Clinical/Counselling Psychologists to be supported in a Preceptorship, whereby the Band 7 post holder would be provided with training and supervision to meet the Band 8a role requirements within 12-18 months."
Main duties of the job
The post within our CaPS team is based at The Phoenix Centre, St George's Hospital, providing specialist assessment and intervention (group and individual) for patients affected by cancer and their families/carers. The range of work is diverse, covering outpatient and inpatient settings, joint-working with multidisciplinary colleagues, teaching/training and supervisory opportunities within and outside of clinical psychology. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, alongside a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, additional Clinical Psychologists (across cancer and palliative care), a Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist and a Cancer Counsellor. You will also liaise closely with medical, nursing and AHP colleagues within Cancer Services in delivering a highly integrated service. The Macmillan Cancer Psychological Support (CaPS) Team actively supports research and there are numerous opportunities for involvement in teaching and training.
The aspect of the post within the RDCC is a highly innovative aspect of the role and a great opportunity to shape a service that is one of very few on the country to have embedded psychology as part of the holistic diagnostic process. The role is a mixture of short-term clinical assessment and embedding psychologically-informed care as part of the wider pathway.

- Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical/counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
Desirable
- Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training, health psychology and/or other fields of applied psychology
