Adult Critical Care Directorate Senior Clinical Fellow in Intensive Care Shock and Pocus

Main duties of the job
Clinical fellows are required to work as part of the critical care medical and multidisciplinary team on adult intensive care. The fellow will also core member of the ICU POCUS team. The duration of the post is 12 months. The clinical fellow in echocardiography will receive specific mentoring and training in echocardiography as applied to critical care. This is to answer the perceived need for critical care echocardiography training and the new BSE/ICS accreditation processes. This will include transthoracic as well as transoesophageal echocardiography and the aim is to achieve advanced level of echocardiography (BSE, EDEC or similar). The post holder will also be encouraged to make use of a whole range of teaching opportunities including in-house courses and our echocardiography simulator laboratory and weekly echocardiography meetings. There may be some opportunity to attend the cardiology outpatient echocardiography lab by arrangement. The post holder is not required to have any previous echocardiography experience, but this post is aimed at doctors who intend a career in intensive care medicine.
Successful candidates will gain experience in management of adult ICU patients, including advanced respiratory support, advanced cardiovascular monitoring (including pulmonary artery floatation catheters), intra-aortic balloon counter-pulsation, trans-thoracic and trans-oesophageal echocardiography and renal replacement therapy.

The available positions are for either 6 or 12 months, during which the fellow will become an integral part of the ICU POCUS team.
The clinical fellow in echocardiography will undergo specialized mentoring and training in the application of echocardiography to critical care. This initiative addresses the growing demand for critical care echocardiography training and aligns with the new BSE/ICS accreditation processes. Training will encompass both transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography, with the goal of achieving an advanced level of proficiency (BSE, EDEC, or equivalent).
In addition to the echocardiography training, the post holder will have the opportunity to engage in various teaching activities, including in-house courses and utilization of our echocardiography simulator laboratory. Weekly echocardiography meetings are also available for participation. Arrangements can be made for the post holder to attend the cardiology outpatient echocardiography lab, providing a comprehensive learning experience.
Applicants are not required to have prior echocardiography experience, but this post is ideally suited for doctors aspiring to a career in intensive care medicine. While there are substantial opportunities for echocardiography training, the primary commitment of the post holder will be to provide service in the adult intensive care unit. The work schedule follows a full shift system, including weekend day and night shifts on a 1:8 basis, with day shifts (08:00-17:30), weekend shifts (08:00-21:00), and night shifts (20:00-09:00) in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit.
We welcome applications from overseas candidates, but prior experience with the UK healthcare system is advantageous, and GMC registration is mandatory.
