Job summary
You will be joining a large team of Speech and Language Therapists, Speech and Language Therapy assistants and admin staff within the Paediatric Community SLT team. This post is available due to investment in our team by the local authority and by a local specialist nursery and resource base.
The post available includes:
3 days working with our commissioned caseload. The local authority has commissioned an additional SLT post to see pupils who fall outside our core offer. This means you will be working with a more diverse paediatric caseload including those who are home schooled and in independent schools and nurseries.
2 days in a specialist setting (resource base and specialist nursery)
You will need:
- Experience of and specialist skills working with a diverse paediatric caseload in mainstream schools and/or early years settings
- Experience of and specialist skills working with a multi-disciplinary team
- Developed clinical skills especially around ASD and DLD
- Understanding of the SEND guidance and how it applies to SLT provision
- Ability to work flexibly and independently where necessary
- Enthusiasm, imagination and initiative
Main duties of the job
You will be supported by a Band 7 SLT across all settings with opportunities for training, including Gestalt Language Processing and specialist training for children with down syndrome.
- Specialist assessment, management and treatment of children with a range of communication needs in mainstream schools with an EHCP and/or early year's resource base
- Provision of SLT services for a school age population and/or early year's settings
- Support and supervision of SLT students and junior staff
- Children's therapists will work as part of an extended team

- To be responsible for the management of a general caseload of children with developmental speech and language delays/disorders and social communication differences in the settings as above
- To assess, diagnose, treat and manage a caseload of children with speech, language, communication and social interaction difficulties & differences
- To manage and prioritise own caseload independently, demonstrating skills in dealing with complex issues to generate appropriate strategies for caseload management. To manage and prioritise own workload of both direct and indirect contacts and time allocated working towards personal and team objectives
- To provide detailed SLT targets and programmes fully integrated into school.
- To contribute to meetings around the child such as TAC meetings, EHCP and review meetings
- To work with parents, carers, teaching staff and other agencies involved in the childrens care
- To work at a universal level providing health promotion advice and training to parents, carers and staff
- To work as a member of the Speech and Language Therapy Team
- To act as a resource and support for other therapists working with children with speech, language and communication difficulties
- To provide training to multi-agency staff in the field across a range of settings as indicated, including early years settings and education settings
