Job summary
The Physician Associate posts are positions to support a team of consultants, junior doctors and nursing staff and therapists within each department. The post holder must hold a science-related degree prior to graduating from an established UK Physician Associate Training programme, which follows the Department of Health's Competence Curriculum Framework, has successfully passed the UK National Physician Associate Examination and is registered with the Managed Voluntary Register for Physician Associates. Consideration will be given to appropriately qualified Physician Associates from other countries as well.You will assess and examine patients, manage a specific caseload of patients, present them, initiate and interpret investigations and recommend treatment, whilst exercising a high level of professional judgment and expertise when delivering care. You will be supervised by a designated consultant and work alongside a highly-trained and committed team of doctors and nurses, working collaboratively with other members of the clinical team within the Trust's policies and clinical guidelines.

Main duties of the job
The primary role of this post is to facilitate continuity care for inpatients from admission to discharge. An important component of this role is liaison with A&E, AMU, outpatient services (General ID, HIV, and TB) and General Practitioners. In addition, the appointee will assist in the development and implementation of a modernized patient-centered service including liaison with a developing rapid access /early discharge review/ outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy (OPAT) service.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, adaptable, and innovative Physician Associate who is eager to learn about Infectious Diseases and who will enjoy being part of a multidisciplinary team. They will contribute to assessment and management of complex specialist patients, help to develop improved care pathways and service delivery, and participate in audit and research. The post-holder will be key to ensuring care is patient-centred and meets the high standards expected of a specialist department. Specifically, they will ensure we meet targets for infection control, VTE prophylaxis, discharge summary completion, accurate coding etc.
With time, suitable training and experience, it is anticipated that the post-holder will develop greater autonomy and initiate improvements in clinical practice. This may include reviewing patients in the Infectious Diseases Rapid Access Clinical and becoming a qualified prescriber if regulations permit.
