Job summary
St George's University Hospital's NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Band 4 Assistive Technology Technician/ Field Service Engineer to join the well established team based at Queen Mary's Hospital, Roehampton.
The Assistive Technology Service is responsible for the assessment, provision and maintenance of environmental control systems (ECS), and integrated computer access, which are installed in the homes of people with severe and complex disabilities to maximise personal independence and reduce dependence on their carer.The systems are individually prescribed and configured to suit the needs of the user, and enable that user to continue to live in their own home with significantly enhanced independence, security and quality of life.
The service is commissioned by NHS England and covers an extensive and diverse geographical area, which includes 5 London boroughs, Surrey and West Sussex.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will join the Assistive Technology Team spending time at Queen Mary's Hospital managing equipment, refurbishment and fault services as well as providing annual services/fault calls across a number of community locations/ clients homes within the commissioned area of South London, Surrey and West Sussex.
A car owner and driver is therefore essential for this post.
A highly motivated and organised individual is required to join this busy service.

Main Duties/Key Results Areas:
AT Device setup
- Independently complete acceptance tests, commission and add equipment arriving in the department to relevant stock management systems, escalating any issues to more senior staff colleagues.
- To configure, according to specification, mechanical and electronic equipment in preparation for assessment or installation.
- To follow procedures to evaluate and compliance check that equipment performs to manufacturers specification.
- To test electronic devices, including those classified as medical devices, guided by appropriate directives and standards according to departmental policy.
- To prepare and issue written User/Safety guides for devices to be issued.
- To develop and maintain technical knowledge of specific electronic assistive technology equipment as required to acceptance test and configure it.
Equipment Management
- To carry out all tasks required related to equipment management, including: decontamination, refurbishing, condemning and safe disposal of failed/obsolete devices.
- To maintain appropriate equipment management records and other appropriate data.
- Refurbish equipment to place into stock. Including independently carrying out routine fault finding procedures and repairs.
- To work with fine tools, power tools and fixed workshop equipment as required.
- To perform, following training, electrical safety testing of all relevant equipment in the department and annual servicing within clients homes
- To be aware of and comply with appropriate Medical Devices Directive legislation and other relevant directives and standards.
- To maintain a safe working environment within the workshop and office environments, including complying with COSHH and Health and Safety legislation.
- To manage stock equipment at the team base and escalate any issues to management.
- To monitor, record and process incoming stores goods into relevant stock locations.
- Monitor equipment stock levels (in conjunction with other staff) and order replacement stock as required.
- Attend clients homes to withdraw and remove equipment no longer required
- Be first contact for clients reporting faults. Diagnose and provide support remotely to resolve faults. Where not possible, to arrange to attend or escalate to a senior engineer to attend to provide resolutio

- To communicate routine information sensitively with a range of people, including patients who may have communication difficulties and other challenges.
- To keep appropriate records relating to both equipment provision and patient interventions.

- To be conversant with the Health and Safety at Work Act and COSHH regulations as applicable to this post.
