Job summary

Our Plastic Surgery Department plans to appoint a nurse to develop nurse specialist services specific to micro-vascular reconstruction with a focus on patients' pathway in plastic surgery breast reconstruction.

Main duties of the job

The role is pivotal in providing continuity of care as the key expert and link for patients undergoing complex plastic micro-surgical procedures, including those performed in conjunction with other specialities. The focus of the role is on facilitation of the pathway for patients undergoing breast reconstruction.

Job responsibilities

  • Be a highly specialist resource providing clinical expertise in care, advice, and support within the specialist area of plastic micro-surgery with a focus on, but not exclusive to, breast reconstruction.
  • Work within the multi-disciplinary team to ensure a seamless, coordinated approach to person-centred care, across the clinical pathway, and timely onward referrals to other professionals/agencies as appropriate.
  • Lead in the provision of expert advice in developing, implementing, and monitoring policies, procedures and protocols which meet national, regional, and local requirements.
  • Proactively advance the development of the nursing service to achieve person centred care.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of trust wide education for staff caring for patient undergoing plastic surgery, ensuring there is ward support and training opportunities for staff managing this patient group.
  • In the absence of the Lead Clinical Nurse in Plastic Surgery, to deputise in managing the service including the plastic Dressing Clinic with associated outpatient clinics, Outreach and staff management.
