Rotational Physiotherapist

Job summary

  • To determine clinical diagnosis using assessment skills, plan and deliver effective treatment programmes and maintain associated records for patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To delegate workload to Therapy Technicians and may be involved in teaching MDT staff.
  • To undertake evidence based projects, including recommendations for change in practice and may participate in departmental research and audit.
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner within the standards of professional practice laid down by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the Health Professions Council

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality inpatient physiotherapy to patients following out of hospital cardiac arrest as part of their acute rehabilitation and recovery.

To provide high quality physiotherapy to patients who have experienced out of hours cardiac arrest and require acute assessment and early acute rehab to optimise their recovery.

To participate in the 7 day service supporting the emergency respiratory physiotherapy service and/or the acute rehabilitation service across medicine and senior health wards.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Diploma / degree in Physiotherapy
  • HPC Registration
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development including evidence of reflective practice, attendance at in-service training, attendance at courses and clinical experience gained.

Desirable

  • Member of the CSP

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 1 year's NHS experience (undergraduate experience counts)
  • Core placements undertaken as an undergraduate/ postgraduate - Musculoskeletal outpatients, Respiratory, and Rehabilitation (Geriatrics, Neurology, Orthopaedics etc.)
  • Experience of team-working within the physiotherapy/ multidisciplinary team, including setting team goals

Desirable

  • Experience of audit and research

Skills

Essential

  • Fluent in written and oral English, and able to present information in a clear and logical manner
  • Ability to organize, prioritise and delegate
  • Computer literacy
  • To actively participate in staff training
  • Able to perform on-call and weekend duties having attained the necessary competencies.
  • Able to carry out moderate to intense physical effort throughout the working day and carry out concurrent activities, involving the delivery of manual therapy, therapeutic handling and demonstration of exercise
  • Ability to cope with working in a stressful and unpredictable environment
  • Must have own access to suitable transportation (e.g. car or bike ) whilst on Community based rotation

  • Have an understanding of Clinical Governance and implications for physiotherapy services including experience of quality issues and audit
  • Remain up to date with professional practice and current research

  • Ability to keep legible and accurate notes in English using POMR system
