Job summary

This post is based at Croydon University Hospital Clinical Blood Sciences Laboratory (CBS). However, you will be expected to work at any of the SWLP sites as and when required.

Croydon University Hospital Laboratory operates a 24hr shift system providing cover to a busy A&E and acute services. The Laboratory is equipped with Roche c8000 analysers with P612 pre/post analytics automation for Biochemistry; ACL Top 550, Beckman Coulter DxH 900 with AutoMate 1200 for pre/post analytics Haematology and Coagulation services, as well as Immucor IRIS for automated Blood Transfusion services.

The state-of-the-art hub laboratories at St Georges and St Helier Hospitals will also offer further specialist experience in blood coagulation, haemoglobin electrophoresis, flow cytometry, HPLC and mass spectrometry.

The Specialist Biomedical Scientist role requires motivated HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists with a minimum of 18 months experience in multidisciplinary working in Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry departments. You will be expected to rotate through the departments as required to support the service. The role, therefore, would suit candidates wishing to gain advanced experience in combined CBS disciplines as they work toward senior roles within CBS laboratories. Successful candidates will be supported to undertake various CPD activities to include both in-house/external programmes as well as post-graduate study programmes.

Main duties of the job

See attached Job description and persons specification document attached. You will be required to participate in out of hours shift cover to support a 24/7 service.

You will be expected to rotate in Biochemistry, haematology and blood transfusion departments to maintain the multidisciplinary competences.
