Job summary

To support and deputise for the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse to ensure theprovision of excellent nursing care and the effective management of staff and other resources.Also to carry out the day-to-day management and co-ordination of the ward/department. To take charge of the ward on a regular basis and manage a cohort of staff on the ward with minimal supervision. To ensure that there are education and training opportunities for all staff, including pre and post registratio n students and /or providing specialist knowledge if working in a clinical area where a post registration course is essential eg., critical care setting.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has come for an experienced registered staff nurse to join our senior team in one of our surgical wards. Florence Nightingale Ward is a 22 bedded ward that specialises in complex ENT and maxillofacial surgery. We are also the regional centre for Head and Neck cancer and the nominated ward for surgical tracheostomy care. Alongside this we manage patients with complex feeding needs due to head & neck surgical conditions.

Our patient admission routes vary between emergency admissions, transfers from the General Intensive Care Unit and other hospitals and planned major elective surgery. The patients stay will vary from an overnight stay to longer admission with complex needs and life-changing outcomes.

We are looking for a senior staff nurse to provide nursing leadership and promote best practice. Applicants should be committed to improving quality and the patients' experience with a demonstrable evidence of this at ward or specialist level.
